CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment.

Essentially, Tulsa Boys’ Home is about healing broken hearts and broken homes, giving young boys a sense of hope for a positive future that they perhaps never thought possible – changing lives for a lifetime. In 1918, the Tulsa Boys’ Home took in its first five residents – two boys found sleeping in boxes in an alley and three orphans. In the 100 years since TBH’s founding, more than 13,000 boys have benefited from the services of Tulsa Boys’ Home. It was the first residential treatment facility serving troubled boys in Oklahoma and remains the largest in the state. Tulsa Boys' Home provides critically needed residential treatment to troubled young boys with behavioral, emotional, and substance abuse problems.

This component includes a new foster care program and the creation of a long-term mentoring program. Under the Foster Care Program, TBH recruits foster families to provide homes for the boys who do not have one. The Mentor Program links residents with supportive, adult mentors from surrounding communities. These partnerships continue long after a boy’s departure, and are monitored by our Tulsa Boys’ Home Volunteer Coordinator. The Therapeutic Equine Counseling Program brings retired thoroughbred race horses to Tulsa Boys’ Home through the Oklahoma Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. Residents help in the overall care of the horses, and benefit from the responsibility, trust, self-discipline, and communication skills they learn from their relationships with them.

Tulsa Boys' Home has had boys speak at our board meetings and share their experiences at TBH in their own words. The Leadership Council provides a direct connection from the boys to our administrators and Board of Directors. This allows our boys the opportunity to ask questions, express concerns, and pitch ideas to improve our campus and their lives.
