The need for our mission is even greater today than it was when we were founded, 104 years ago! We are often the last hope for many of our boys who have been abused , as well as neglected and abandoned. It is not uncommon for our boys to have had a dozen or more failed foster home placements before they arrive at TBH. We are the only group home for troubled young boys that do what we do for the most troubled boys from Tulsa and the surrounding communities. Most of our boys are “wards of the state” whose parent’s rights were terminated by the courts due to abuse and neglect – they are the orphans of the 21st century.
Tulsa Boys’ Home and the Sand Springs Public Schools provide education to TBH’s residents in its on-campus school building. Our school is unique in that we provide more individualized attention because of the small size of our classes, typically boys per class. This allows for an education program based on the true strengths and needs of each individual student. At this substance abuse treatment centre at Sand Springs, OK, the main focus of care is Substance Abuse Treatment Services. Also included are life skills training, character education, and our state-of-the-art on-campus school. We deliver residential services to 64 boys between the ages of 13 to 18 on a daily basis. At the Tulsa Boys' Home, 40 of our boys are placed by the Department of Human Services, and the other 24 are privately placed by parents or legal guardians. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art ; drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being. Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy , a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder. Tulsa Boys Home uses a holistic approach to treatment because they believe that any substance abuse someone may have, will surely affect every aspect of their lives.

Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. TBH is also held in the same high regard by several of our partners in our field, including the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, and the Tulsa Area United Way. In recent years, the power and impact of our Therapeutic Equine Program has remarkably enhanced the healing of our troubled boys in ways beyond our initial expectations.
The fourth boy to be recovered managed to make it to the shore near a sand plant on the south side of the river and was located by Sand Springs Police, Tulsa World reported. Conway told Fox News that staff at the facility spotted the group of five leaving the campus Monday night and alerted the sheriff’s department. Tulsa Boys’ Home also has a "Leadership Council" which consists of boys who have been selected by their Lodge Manager, Therapist, and peers as demonstrating leadership abilities. The Leadership Council provides a direct connection from the boys to our administrators and Board of Directors. This allows our boys the opportunity to ask questions, express concerns, and pitch ideas to improve our campus and their lives.
